In our second series of close-up interviews with today's K-pop heartthrobs, we've picked up the idol group that boasts tremendous popularity in Korea: 2PM! Debuting in Japan last year, they've captured the hearts of women all over the world. What makes them so appealing?
You'll know why they're called "beastly" once you watch their concerts
In November last year, they debuted in Japan as the "beastly idols" from Korea. Their powerful performances that overflow with gorgeous masculinity - a product of their height and well-trained, macho physique - made them a hot topic in Japan. Some time after their Korean release, they will finally release their first ever Japanese song "Take Off" in May.
(Taec) "Take Off" means to depart, to start on a journey. We're starting anew in Japan, so it's a fitting song for us. It's a song filled with our wish to take off! with everyone in Japan.
(Chan) The pronunciations in Japanese were difficult~ When I tried to say "tsu", it came out sounding like "zu", so I had to record over some parts for more than 10 times.
(Khun) Both Korean and Japanese are foreign languages to me, so I feel that they're both difficult. I can't express my emotions in a song if I don't know what the lyrics mean, so I put in a lot of effort into studying Japanese.
(Woo) We also recorded the Japanese version of our Korean song "Heartbeat" as the accompanying song. We performed that version for the first time at the "Mezamashi Super Live in Okinawa" and I'm really glad that was aired on TV because we practised very hard for it.
Along with this new song, they will also hold their first national tour. What are the highlights of their concert?
(Taec) I think you'll know why 2PM is called "Beastly Idols" once you watch our concert. Please feel our passionate energy on stage!
(Junho) Please check out 2PM's harmony with each other, as well as the performance itself.
(Junsu) I would like everyone to see 2PM's uniqueness and one of a kind vibe.
Did any unimaginable incidents occur during their first standalone concert in Korea last summer?
(Taec) When I laughed at Junsu for not realizing that his fly was half-open, my own zipper got spoilt while I was dancing and completely flew open! That was embarrassing.......
With their performance and songs combined, their charming appeal shines even further. We hope you will take this opportunity to watch them moving live. Check out the contrast between their true nature and their beastly image, too.
