Hanryu Pia magazine Interview, 2PM

2PM is all about "bewitching" music.
We want everyone to watch our stage performance as soon as possible!

Their feelings on the first showcase in Japan

After much preparation, the "Beastly Idols" 2PM debuted in Japan last December. In Korea, all of their new releases are guaranteed to be hit songs, and they're in great demand for commercials, with cosmetics, clothes and drinks spearheading the top of the list. Besides Korea, they're also hitting the music charts of various Asian countries surging with the new Korean wave. Pushing forth with their strong and masculine performances, as well as their adorable natural state on variety shows, they've charmed female fans with their contrasting personalities. After their debut in Japan, they had to extend their live showcase at Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan to 3 dates, and 25,000 people came to watch them. They've replaced Shojo Jidai's record of 22,000 as the Korean artistes with the largest number of people at a debut event.

JUNSU: Far more people came to the showcase than we expected, so we were really touched.
TAEC: After seeing so many people in the audience, I strongly felt, "I want to show them a passionate and cool stage performance!" Every time we stand on stage, we perform with the hope of matching our fans' wishes.
KHUN: Yes. That's why I believe we can unify much more with our fans if we could improve our Japanese to the point of being able to converse a lot.
WOO: I have the same thought. At the time, we were learning the polite form, which is way too stiff for a normal Japanese conversation. I think it'd be great if we could speak more with the Japanese that young people use everyday.
CHAN: For me, my wisdom teeth started hurting after the live performance. I had a fever so I couldn't attend the after-party, and I'm really bitter about that.
TAEC: You have to brush your teeth properly~ (laughs)
CHAN: Wisdom teeth aren't cavities. (laughs) When we went to Japan in December, I was surprised to see that CD shops were displaying quite a few of our signboards. I also saw buses with our poster on it, promoting 2PM. I saw three in 20 minutes. Having seen how much we're being promoted, I think it's a real honour to debut in Japan. It reminded me that we have to work hard.

In February, they also participated in the "Mezamashi Super Live in Okinawa", an outdoor live performance held in Okinawa. At that concert, they performed the Japanese version of their representative song "Heartbeat" for the first time.

TAEC: The audience screamed "Kya-" when the intro with heart beats played as usual, but the minute I started rapping in Japanese, it looked like everyone's faces went blank in confusion. Because we didn't publicly announce that we would sing in Japanese. (laughs) It's been a while since I'e danced on stage, so I made a few mistakes in the dance steps. I was really frustrated about that...
CHAN: Taecyeon and Wooyoung were really busy with their shooting for the drama "Dream High". For the Okinawa concert, it seems the two of them arrived in Japan just before our performance, had their make-up done right away, and went straight on stage.
JUNHO: It's a concert we were all especially nervous about. Not just the singing, but we were also nervous about doing the MC in Japanese. (laughs)
JUNSU: Okinawa's a great place. The ocean was pretty and the food was delicious.
CHAN: The day before the concert, I saw "Habu-shu" (Pit viper in alcohol) on the streets in Okinawa. It's a traditional alcohol of Okinawa, right? I heard the snake is stuffed into the bottle while it's still alive.
TAEC: Really? I didn't see it. But it sounds expensive, so we probably can't drink it. (laughs)
